Last week's Beating the Book
It's 2:11 am PST, and I'm too exhausted to write a proper intro (whatever that means). Suffice it to say that we went 6-7-1 last week, but don't feel too badly about it. The one regret I have is taking the Ravens over Cincinnati because I had a strong feeling that the Bengals would bounce back, but I didn't step up and make Damon go along.
For this week, our best bet is between the Giants and the Rams.
EARLY GAMES
Patriots -2.5 at Dolphins
Damon and I both expect this to be a close game, but we also both expect the Patriots to win. I have a feeling that the Pats will win by one or two, but precise margin of victory is not something you should bet on. Because the line is less than three, part with the points and back New England.
Patriots 20 - 17
LATE GAMES
Rams +6.5 at Seahawks
Normally we like the Seahawks at home and will do whatever we can to bet against the Rams, but ever since Joe Vitt took over, St. Louis has played smarter and with better intensity. The Rams' commitment to getting Steven Jackson the ball has paid off, and now that Marc Bulger and Torry Holt are back, St. Louis should be able to keep up. Back the Rams.
Rams 27 - 24
Redskins pick 'em at Buccaneers
The Bucs lost to San Francisco on the road and then were blown out by Carolina in Tampa the last two weeks, and though they're 5-3, they've had arguably the easiest schedule in the league so far. In short, the Redskins have been the better team this season, and all they have to do to cover is win. Back Washington.
Redskins 20 - 17
SUNDAY NIGHT
Browns +8 at Steelers
Cleveland's not a good team, but they typically show up to play, and that plus eight is good enough for us against a Pittsburgh team that's played worse at home and is missing their starting quarterback. Back the Browns.
Steelers 23 - 17
MONDAY NIGHT
Cowboys +3 at Eagles
The Eagles have their share of problems from the Terrell Owens fiasco to Donovan McNabb's injuries to their inability to run the ball. But we like them here because they've purged the bad guy from their ranks, and the team will want to rally around McNabb and show they don't need Owens. Back the Eagles.
Eagles 20 - 16
We were 6-7-1 against the spread in Week 9. We're 71-56-3 on the season.
